A CALL FOR IMMEDIATE HELP
A 7.0 Richter scale earthquake struck Haiti, principally Port Au-Prince, Tuesday afternoon 12 January 2010 causing widespread destruction and loss of life. Many, dead and alive, remain entombed under the rubble. Many of the roads and streets in and leading into the city are impassable. Though aid is being massed at the airport and other points, most have not reached the people. The city has virtually no infrastructure and few pieces of heavy equipment. As a result rescue efforts have been slowed and many continue to die as a result. Without water, food and sanitation those who have survived are still very vulnerable. Heat, hunger and thirst are leading to desperation which, in turn, is leading to pockets of lawlessness.
Family members of Dr. Marvin and Ms. Nicole Esperance Wells, Jacksonville FL, are amongst the survivors in Port-Au-Prince. By way of history Nicole’s father is Rev. Joseph Joel Esperance, a minister and evangelist who, during his 65 years of ministry, started hundreds of churches in Haiti. Of Rev. and Mrs. Esperance's living offspring, eight of the children and grandchildren are ministers of the gospel. Reverend Jarman Esperance, his son, is the former superintendent of the Assemblies of GOD Mission in Haiti. The family also operates a Haitian school of 400 students in Miragoane, Haiti. Rev. Ruth Esperance Marseille, his daughter, and her husband Rev. Bogard Marseille are overseers of Source de Vie Church in Port-Au-Prince, the area where the damage is most acute. The church and home are badly damaged and uninhabitable. Three hundred people with them are currently without food, water, shelter or sanitation outdoors on the grounds of the church.
Dr. and Mrs. Wells, on behalf of Source de Vie Church and its members, solicit your support. Through this ministry lives have been changed and many have received the LORD JESUS as their personal savior. Evangelism and discipleship is still moving forward despite the destruction. They continue to “….Trust in The LORD with all (their) hearts and lean not to (their) own understanding” PROV - 3:5. Our goal is to provide immediate short and long term assistance to the ministry and people.
